ROCKERIES >>> Dry River Beds

I prefer to use Purbeck stone for my rockeries as it is readily available and it is not going to ruin a natural limestone pavement, which is often the trouble with using Westmoreland stone.

A small outcrop of rocks can make a terrific impact on a garden.

>>> Tips

A good rock garden should be in scale with the surrounding area and with the plants, used in the garden. The rocks should all be laid following a natural rock bed formation with the grain of the rocks going in the same direction. They should all dip slightly backwards to help retain water.

The rockery should not look like a current bun with stone in all directions. The only time it could be random, is when you are trying to recreate a scree garden, or mountain stream.
